Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers about using the Terraria map viewer and editor.

General

Terraworld.dev is a browser-based viewer and editor for Terraria world files (.wld). Select a local save file to inspect the map, chest locations and contents, NPCs, signs, and available world analysis. It also includes map editing and world-property tools, depending on the loaded world data, without requiring a desktop installation.

TerraWorld processes selected world files locally in your browser for parsing, map rendering, and editing. The application does not upload the world file to its servers. Keep your own backup before editing or replacing any Terraria save file.

Usage

Finish the edit, open Data, and choose Export World. TerraWorld downloads a new .wld file; it does not silently overwrite the save on your device. Close Terraria before replacing a save, keep the original .wld as a backup, and test the exported copy first. For a tModLoader world, keep the matching .twld pair together.

Open your world, select View, then turn on View Biome. TerraWorld will analyze the map and zoom out to an overview where the detected biome areas are outlined. To show or hide individual biome types, open the settings button next to View Biome.

Windows: Documents\My Games\Terraria\Worlds

macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Terraria/Worlds

Linux: ~/.local/share/Terraria/Worlds

Android: Android/data/com.and.games505.TerrariaPaid/Worlds (access depends on the Android version and file manager)

iOS: Files > On My iPhone/iPad > Terraria > Worlds

tModLoader on Windows: Documents\My Games\Terraria\tModLoader\Worlds

Compatibility

No. View Biome currently supports Terraria Vanilla biomes only. A modded world may still open in TerraWorld, but biomes introduced or changed by mods are not included in the biome analysis.

TerraWorld can load supported tModLoader companion data (.twld) alongside a Terraria world file. Support depends on the game and mod data present in the save, so review the parsed map and entities carefully before making or saving edits.

Yes. On mobile, TerraWorld automatically enables low-end support on first use and uses touch-friendly tool panels. Large worlds can still exceed a browser tab's memory limit, especially while zooming or using Real View. If the tab reloads, close other tabs, keep low-end support enabled, avoid Real View, or open the same world on a desktop.

The .wld stores Terraria-compatible world data. tModLoader keeps additional mod-owned data in the companion .twld. Opening only one file can leave modded tiles or entities incomplete. Select the matching pair with the same base name and keep an untouched backup of both files.

Troubleshooting

Biome outlines are intended as an overview aid, so TerraWorld hides them when you zoom in past the supported level. These areas are calculated by TerraWorld and may not match Terraria perfectly at every boundary. Hiding the outlines at close zoom helps avoid giving the impression that they identify an exact, 100% game-accurate biome border.

This can occur when a world is from a very old Terraria version, a newly released version with a changed file structure, or when the save is incomplete or corrupted. Confirm that you selected the correct .wld file and, when relevant, its matching .twld file. You can also try a Terraria backup file (.bak).

Mobile browsers may terminate a tab when its canvas and world data use too much memory. This is not a normal TerraWorld refresh. Reopen the file with low-end support enabled, turn off Real View and optional overlays, close other apps or tabs, and avoid keeping several large worlds open in one session.
